HandBrake is, in short, a DVD ripping program. It can turn DVDs or VIDEO_TS folders into MP4, AVI or OGM files. (To find more technical details, visit the website.) I use it to backup my legally purchased DVD collection. It makes watching movies on my MacBook very easy, especially when I take trips and don’t want to carry around 20-odd movies.
You can choose certain chapters to rip or rip the entire movie. The only time I find it annoying is if I’m trying to rip TV shows. You have to do each episode separately. It works faster than MacTheRipper, but it doesn’t decrypt certain newer DVDs made by Sony, such as Click and Pursuit of Happiness. Those you must use MacTheRipper. Maybe in the next version.
